About

Dr. John Marshburn is a graduate of Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Alton Ochsner Foundation Hospital, also in New Orleans. He graduated from the University of Redlands with a bachelor’s degree in science. After college, Dr. Marshburn enrolled in a Master’s program at California State University at Fullerton. He taught biology classes and researched cardioactive peptides in the Master’s program. His research interests continued after receiving his master’s degree. During breaks in medical school, Dr. Marshburn studied different types of neurons and their microscopic connections and pathways. After initially working in an ophthalmology practice with his father and brother, Dr. Marshburn opened his practice in Placentia. He continues to practice comprehesive ophthalmology with particular emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eyes. He is a member of the California Academy of Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Marshburn is married with four children. He enjoys growing a wide array of plants. He is active in his church, and sometimes coaches various sports in which his children participate.

The staff members at Dr. Marshburn’s office are well trained and committed to help provide care and support before and after surgery. Dr. Marshburn recently described new lens options for cataract surgery. “With new technologies and intraocular lens options such as the ReSTOR, Toric, Crystalens, and Rezoom, there is a level of potential independence from glasses that was not possible until recently.” There are some eye conditions that may not be appropriate for these newer lenses, and Dr. Marshburn suggests a complete clinical evaluation and eye examination to determine if you would be a good candidate for these optional intraocular lenses.
